Val Barr Artist
After qualifying with an Honours Degree in Illustration, at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, I moved back home to Perth. It was at this time that I took a part-time position as a glass engraver at Caithness Glass. I may not work there anymore but it is another skill that I have taken with me and continue to engrave commissioned pieces from my Studio. I also enjoy creating Caricatures and cartoons, so if you are looking for something a bit different, let me show you what I can do for you.
I have always taken on commissions right through school, but now I get to do it full time. Having trained as an Illustrator, Illustration has carried through to many areas of my work. I love the detail, the glint in the eyes, the glossy coat. A drawing that you feel you could touch.
Perthshire is a great place to base myself, not too far from some spectacular scenery and wonderful wildlife. I have always loved the countryside and being an artist means that I can appreciate it through my work. My hobbies also include country sports, and trying to work our dog, who is just as happy in the studio as up a hill, and Mylo is such a handsome model! Working as an Artist gives me the opportunity, when I am not too busy with commissions, to get out and about. I never leave home without my sketchbook, camera and binoculars, as you never know what you might see on the hill tops or just at the roadside.
My love of animals and especially dogs, means that as an artist, my passion is my job and I can’t think of anything I would rather do.
